We have been developing programming for schools in Wichita, in line with WAU purpose, charitable and educational. To further our purpose, we are partnering with Washington Elementary School (Washington) and Butler County Community College (BCCC) to develop a strategy for mentorship, culturally appropriate counselling for African students and resource mobilization as needed. These two schools will act as pilot schools for our program. Yesterday we had a productive meeting at Washington to discuss needs for displaced students from Africa, as well as those from other areas demonstrating needs. We met with BCCC on April 22nd. The reception was warm and welcoming at both schools.

We want to fill in any gaps in resources such as backpacks, school shoes, socks, food and snacks for after school hours and during school breaks where necessary, and in mentorship and volunteer services. We are engaging a nutritionist from the Sedgwick County's K-State Research and Extension (Extension) to maximize health benefits of any food we may provide at home. The Extension would also be helpful in providing classes for nutrition and cooking for parents of the students, by demand.
