Updated Newsletter - Goals and Activities:
1. To raise $15,548 for Scholarships, outreach, and overhead expenses.
2. WAU annual cultural celebration is scheduled for August 31 at 5:00PM at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita, Kansas. See Flyer below.
3. Networking and building a community of partnerships.

5. Connecting programs and resources to needs in the African Diaspora community and on the continent of Africa. WAU is interested in volunteer and partnership opportunities in areas that align with our mission statement (education, outreach, cultural exchange, and collaboration).

6. Attended Festival of All Nations Fundraiser in support of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on March 2nd, 2024. Dr. Daisy played drums.

7. Received $1,000 donation from a member on May 3rd, 2024, for Scholarship Fund.

8. The WAU Board of Directors initial meeting took place on April 28, 2024.
·9. Attended 2024 United to Beat Malaria Leadership Summit in Washington DC. Raised voices for Africa and other parts of the World that still experience malaria, March 10-12, 2024.

10. Last year WAU raised $4,500 (updated) for WAU Scholarship Fund from several donors, July – September. We are grateful to all our donors and partners.
Four scholarships awarded to four College & University students at the last WAU event on September 2nd, 2023: Eliphas Belekombwa-Ndelempame, McPherson College; Hebron (Hevi) Mamo, Hesston College; Maria-Cores Hernandez, Bethel College and Samuel Nze, Wichita State University.
11. WAU received the Leadership Transformation Grant (LTG) from Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) in December 2023, joining a long list of organizations that have received the grant.
12. WAU participated in the Kansas Global Holiday Market by Kansas Global Trade Services December 8-10, 2023, utilizing information Booth where it showcased Africa’s largest 25 cities, Safaris, infrastructure, and geographical features on the continent. WAU members performed Nigerian traditional dance and African Storytelling to raise money for WAU Scholarship Fund as well as to foster cultural exchange. WAU members with food businesses also participated in the market and sold a variety of African cuisines.
Wichita, Kansas Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. partnered with WAU at the market on the first day. They helped hand out information brochures.

13. Made a $500 charitable donation as a contribution towards funeral related logistical expenses for a young Burundi International student, enrolled at Butler Community College, who tragically died in a car accident on May 10. We help students attain educational excellence through the award of scholarships, unfortunately, in this case we lost one prematurely. We felt compelled to stand with the community during the process of figuring out a budget for logistical needs surrounding this unexpected loss.
14. On June 15, 2024, WAU members performed African Traditional dances at Cowley County Juneteenth Celebration to raise money for charity and outreach.
