Wichita African Union (WAU) hosted its very first community Christmas party on December 5, 2025, at University Congregational church. The party was a result of a Food Security program funded by Kansas Health Foundation as part of the Hunger Free Kansas Mini Grants awarded July 2025. WAU collaborated with Washington Accelerated Learning Elementary School because of WAU mentorship program there, Breakthrough Community Church, Sudanese Church, WSU students and Happy Grocery Store.
This was the first of its kind for WAU. A shift from WAU members and their families exclusive party to one open to the community. It was the most fulfilling experience, very well received and highly impactful. It was a family event with all ages included. You could feel the joy of the season; holiday cheer was spreading in the room and obviously sense of hope.
This is something we will consider adopting for every December holiday season. About105 people attended.
WAU sincerely appreciates the generosity of Kansas Health Foundation for the funding that made implementation of WAU Food Security Program possible, very successful and extremely impactful.
